TRANSFER LATEST! Antonio Valencia May Leave Man United

Published

on

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he is unsure if Antonio Valencia will reach an agreement with Manchester United to extend his deal beyond this season.

Valencia, United’s captain, has featured only eight times this season after being dropped by former manager Jose Mourinho and struggling with injury since Solskjaer’s arrival in December.

His current deal expires at the end of the season, but United have an option – which runs out at 5pm on Friday – to trigger a further one-year extension for the right-back.

Asked about Valencia’s future ahead of Saturday’s visit of Southampton, Solskjaer said: “At the moment I’m not sure if Man United and Antonio will agree on [a deal for] the next year.

“He’s not 100 per cent fit, he’s had a fantastic career here at Manchester United and in England. He’s one of the only Premier League winners left in the dressing room.

“It depends on if he gets on the pitch in the next few months. He’s the captain and a great servant to the club so hopefully I can get him on the pitch to show what he can do.”

Barcelona release Samper amid reports of Iniesta link-up at Vissel Kobe

The Spaniard’s time at the Camp Nou has come to an end, with the gifted midfielder widely expected to join his old colleague in Japan.

Barcelona have cancelled the contract of midfielder Sergi Samper amid reports of an impending link-up with Andres Iniesta at Japanese side Vissel Kobe.

Samper, 24, leaves Barca after never really living up to his early promise, having been highly rated when coming through their La Masia academy.

A technically gifted midfielder, Samper was initially seen as the long-term successor to Sergio Busquets and was handed his senior debut in September 2014, appearing against APOEL in the Champions League.

He had to wait until March 2016 for his La Liga debut, and loan spells with Granada and Las Palmas followed.

But neither move went to plan, with both clubs suffering relegation from the top flight, and his development was hampered by injuries , particularly at Las Palmas.

Samper ends his Camp Nou career with a record of just 14 first team appearances in total, during an era which Barca were gifted with a plethora of world-class midfield talent.

Reports in Spain claim Samper is expected to join his former Barca team-mate Iniesta at Vissel Kobe.

The 34-year-old playmaker moved to Japan in 2018 and has since managed to rack up 16 appearances for the J1 league club.

Samper is expected to confirm his next move at a news conference on Tuesday, while Barcelona prepare for the Supercopa de Catalunya final against Girona later in the week.

He has made just nine appearances this season and has featured once – at Newcastle on 2 January – since Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho in December.

United do have other options at right-back, including Ashley Young, who signed a one-year contract extension last month, and 19-year-old Diogo Dalot, who joined the club from Porto for £19m in June.

Ter Stegen Reveals The Only 2 Clubs That Can Stop Barcelona From Winning The Champions League

Published

Barcelona goalkeeper, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen has named two clubs that can stop his side from winning this season’s Champions League.

Ter Stegen stated that Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid could stop Ernesto Valverde’s men from winning the trophy this season.

Barcelona were eliminated from the Champions League by Italian side, AS Roma last season but Ter Stegen believes both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are “dangerous” teams that can prevent the Catalan club from achieving their goal this season.

Speaking on teams that can stop Barcelona in the Champions League, Ter Stegen told Goal:

“The elimination against Roma last season was extremely bitter for us, there was certainly more possibilities for us.

“To win the Champions League is our big goal this season. It’s important to keep this goal in mind. We still have a lot of hard games to play. The advantage is comfortable, but Real and Atletico are always dangerous.

“To defend well [is the key to winning the Champions League]. We have our strengths up front and are always good for scoring goals, but, especially in the knockout phase, it is important to concede as few goals as possible.

“And of course you have to be there at the right moment. Real did not play excellently last year, but they were there when it mattered. You have to pay them respect for that.”

Barcelona are currently competing at the last-16 stage of the competition and have a second leg tie against Lyon on March 13 at Camp Nou.
